Three for meath at downpatrick

Meath trainers saddled three winners at Downpatrick's seven-race card yesterday with Tony Martin, Gordon Elliott and Des McDonogh on the mark at the Ulster track.

The John Breslin-owned Sarwistan held off the late effort of the Elliott-trained John Monash to win the opening maiden hurdle for Tony Martin with Ruby Walsh on board.

Sarwistan challenged before the last and did enough in the closing stages to hold off John Monash and Bryan Cooper by a neck.

There was compensation for Gordon Elliott when Altiepix got off the mark on his fourth start over flights as he battled back to beat Barrack Street in a maiden hurdle to put the trainer on to the 45-winner mark for the season.

And the third Meath-trained winner arrived when Moynalty handler Des McDonogh took the bumper when Concience, third on her last three starts, took the last race in fine style.
