Midsummer concert raises €35,000 for the the Irish Cancer Society and Meath Specialist Palliative Care
The proceeds from the midsummer charity concert held in St Colmcille’s Church Kells were handed over to the Irish Cancer Society and Meath Specialist Palliative Care at the Lloyd Restaurant last Friday.
The concert, which took place on 17th June featured The Celtic Tenors, Deirdre Shannon, Erika Copeland and the Colmcille Choir and the evening was a great success.
A total of €34,842.96 was raised and was shared equally between the two charities. The organising committee was comprised of Martin Gargan, Deirdre Gilsenan (Shannon), Joanna Boothroyd, Mary Gargan and Peter Corcoran.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Peter thanked Fr Bradley for making the church available, everyone who made donations, the audience and all those who helped on the night. He also thanked the many sponsors – Specsavers, Moore’s, John Craddock Ltd, Rocks’ Road Stone Company, Supervalu Kells, COOLRite, Manor Stone and Jons.
Dave McEvoy on behalf of the Meath Specialist Palliative Care and Georgina Ganly on behalf of the Irish Cancer Society both thanked the organising committee and outlined how the money collected would benefit cancer patients.
