Local horse bidding for grade one at Meath GAA raceday

The locally owned Gambling Girl will be one of Jessica Harrington's runners in the Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Sunday where there will be a Meath GAA theme to the day.

Jessica Harrington will be bidding for her fourth success in the Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle when she sends both Gambling Girl and Mr Fiftyone to contest the grade one feature.

Previous winners for Harrington included Moscow Flyer in 1999 and Hide the Evidence in 2006, while last year’s winner Jezki  will this year line-up in the Bar One Racing Hatton’s Grace Hurdle

“The plan is to run Jazki in The Hatton’s Grace Hurdle all being well. He seems to be in great form and I have been very happy with him,” she commented.

'Gambling Girl and Mr Fiftyone will both run in The Royal Bond, Gambling Girl was very impressive at Down Royal. I wasn’t that surprised with the way that she won, as she had won her maiden very well at Gowran.

'I thought she had a great chance against those mares, but Sunday is a big step up for her. She jumps and travels well, but she just wouldn’t want the ground too heavy,' she added about Gambling Girl which was bred at Ardmulchan Stud outside Navan by Edward Galvin and his mother, who are also the owners.

Peter Roe manager of Fairyhouse Racecourse said: “This will be the first time that we race on the main track this year.Conditions are ideal and there is a good covering of grass. The going is currently yielding, good to yielding in places with Met Éireann giving a dry forecast for the week.”

Meath GAA Co Board will add to the atmosphere as they have sold more than 130 tables for their inaugural raceday at Fairyhouse.
