Robert powers to victory at Tipperary

Summerhill jockey Robert Power, who won the 2007 Aintree Grand national for Gordon Elliott with Silver Birch, was on the mark at Tipperary on Thursday (7th August). There was a Meath flavour to the victory of Western Rose in a maiden hurdle as the horse is trained by Kilmessan native Adrian Maguire who is one a select number of jockeys who partnered over 1,000 winners in England in a long career before he turned to training. Also at Tipperary, Johnny Murtagh won the listed race on the card when he took the spoils for trainer Aidan O"Brien with Westphalia. Moynalty jockey Declan McDonogh opted for Sligo and won the John Perry Race with the Kevin Prendergast-trained Motafaany which benefited when the odds-on favourite Ballyhaunis lost a lot of ground at the start for Fran Berry.
