Keogan on team of the year

Meath's Donal Keogan has been selected on the gaa.ie football team of the year for 2012 in recognition of a season of outstanding performances for the young Rathkenny player. Keogan was handed his opportunity following an injury to captain Seamus Kenny in the opening game of the Leinster SFC against Wicklow and the Rathkenny man took his chance with both hands as he produced outstanding performances especially against Kildare in the Leinster SFC semi-final. Keogan was forced out of the action in the All-Ireland SFC qualifier against Laois and his absense was a major contributatory factor in Meath's subsequent demise. Here is the gaa.ie assessment as to why Keogan has been selected on the team: "A superb performer in the Meath full-back line this season, the tenacious Keogan showed himself to be one of the finest corner backs in the game with some outstanding defensive displays against Kildare and Dublin. When he went off injured in the Round 4 Qualifier against Laois, Meath's task was made considerably harder". The gaa.ie team of the year is - Paul Durcan (Donegal); Donal Keogan (Meath), Neil McGee (Donegal), Keith Higgins (Mayo); Frank McGlynn (Donegal), Karl Lacey (Donegal), Mark McHugh (Donegal); Neil Gallagher (Donegal), Barry Moran (Mayo); Alan Dillon (Mayo), Michael Darragh Macauley (Dublin), Kevin McLoughlin (Mayo); Colm O'Neill (Cork), Michael Murphy (Donegal), Colm McFadden (Donegal).
