Meath Co Board chairman Barney Allen.

Co Board delay the selection process

Originally set for the Co Board meeting at Áras Táilteann next Monday 1st October, the unveiling of the new Meath senior football manager has now been put back a week. Delegates were told at the September meeting that the Co Board would be in a position to make an announcement at the meeting on Monday 1st October. That meeting has been put back a week it was revealed on Tuesday morning. Now it is expected that the new man will be named on Monday 8th October although there is sure to be plenty of discussions and meetings before that date. As he indicated to the Meath Chronicle a few weeks ago Colm O'Rourke is pursuing his interest in the post. He was due to meet Co Board chairman Barney Allen and the rest of the interviewing committee on Tuesday of this week. There was considerable speculation whether O'Rourke would go forward with his role as an RTE analyst seen as one of the main obstacles. Against that is O'Rourke's long-standing ambition to manage the senior team and there is a body of opinion that believes this is now the time for him to step up to the mark. One candidate who is understood to be out of the running for manager is Kerry man John Evans. However, he could be involved in some capacity and may form a managerial double act with Graham Geraghty. There is a feeling among the Co Board that Evans has a lot to offer.
