Average speeding cases again adjourned
Judge Eirinn McKiernan once again adjourned summonses in respect of breaches of average speed motoring regulations in the county, expressing doubts – not for the first time, that a picture of detection in court was not sufficient proof to convict.
Judge McKiernan said at Trim District Court on Tuesday she would not deal with a batch of summonses before her. She put them back to the sitting on 19th February to which she had previously put in other summonses which also were before the court on dates last year.
Back in September it was stated that the new automated camera system only became live early last year. Further summonses were before the court in November, and more on Tuesday last.
These were in respect of exceeding the average speed limit of 100km on dates in May and June last on the N2 at Ballymagarvey, Duleek and Slane.
Judge McKiernan said she was still not satisfied that it was suggested she accept a certificate, which Court Presenter Sergeant Alan Radcliffe described as a detection photograph.
She said she had put in summonses for a specific date when she would deal with all. Sergeant Radcliffe said he could seek guidance from the legal section.
The Judge queried who was vouching for the certificate.
