Double medal celebration for Hunt sisters

Once again, Bohermeen AC's Tara Hunt proved she is an athlete of outstanding ability, as on day three of the All-Ireland Juvenile Championships, she completed a unique double, winning the under-16 1500m to add to the 800m title she won last week.

The field saw athletes from 16 clubs taking part, with 13 athletes running under five minutes.

As the race unfolded, the field saw about six athletes making moves for the medals and into the final lap, it wasn’t clear cut.

On the final bend, Hunt was in third place before a stunning last 50 metres saw her snatch the gold on the line, posting a new personal best of 4:38.72.

Also on day three, Tara Hunt's sister Emma was in action in her last year as a junior athlete, and she, like her sister, contested the 1500m at the under-19 level.

Because of unusually high entries in this age group, the field had to be split into two heats, with the top three overall times deemed the medal winners. Emma Hunt raced in heat one and placed second, posting 4:39.20 and had to wait until the second heat was run to confirm she had done enough to win the silver and make the podium in her final year at the juvenile level.

Danu McGann was also in action on Saturday in the Girls under-18 Javelin where placed fifth overall.

Bohermeen AC had two athletes in action on Sunday, with Pavilas Cherdnok placing fourth in the under-14 80m final and Aodhan O’Reilly also placed fourth in the under-16 long jump.
