Another 13 clubs from Meath join the Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Programme

Thirteen additional GAA clubs in Meath joined the Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs Programme at an Orientation Day in Croke Park recently. This now brings the total number of Meath clubs in the Programme to 36, one of the highest in the country.

The new clubs to join are:

Dunsany, Bective, Moynalty GFC, Boardsmill, Clann na nGael, Cortown, Simonstown Gaels, Castletown, Drumree, Ballivor GFC, Donaghmore/Ashbourne, Walterstown and Carnaross

Nationally a total 207 GAA clubs joined the Programme at the event, which brings the overall number engaged in the project since its inception in 2013 to over 600 clubs.

The Irish Life GAA Healthy Clubs programme empowers GAA clubs to become hubs for health promotion, addressing a wide array of areas including physical activity, mental fitness, community development, diversity and inclusion, substance use, and healthy eating. By engaging club members and the wider community, these clubs are supporting a range of local and national health and wellbeing needs.

The Programme is supported by Irish Life, Healthy Ireland, the HSE, National Office for Suicide Prevention (NOSP), and the Tomar Trust philanthropic organisation.

Uachtarán CLG Jarlath Burns, who addressed the gathering, said that while the GAA focuses on games, it is ultimately about people and the communities within which the club operates. The Healthy Clubs Programme ensures that whatever a club might or might achieve on the field of play in a given season, off the field as a community and as a support structure they will excel by embracing the multitude of offerings in the Programme and the benefits that follow for members.

Declan Bolger, CEO of Irish Life said that Irish Life is extremely proud of their partnership with the GAA and the programme and congratulated the 207 new clubs starting the programme.
