Gardai arrest two men after shoplifting in Ashbourne; 30 Yankee candles recovered in car; tools recovered after three men abandon car in Drumree; 14 cars broken into in underground car park

At approximately 12 noon yesterday, Garda units from Dunshaughlin and Ashbourne responded to reports of three males in a maroon Toyota Avensis acting suspiciously on a building site at Warrenstown, Drumree. The males ran from the scene and in the process abandoned the Toyota Avensis. The suspects were seen being picked up by a black Audi car nearby at short time later.

Gardaí discovered a number of expensive tools in the boot of the car. These are suspected to have been stolen from building sites in the area and enquiries are ongoing in this regard.

In addition Gardaí would like to hear from anybody who may have dashcam footage that recorded the three males in the area or any other suspicious activity in the area.

Yesterday, two men were arrested by gardai following a shoplifting incident in Ashbourne. Just before 4pm two men entered a shop and stole approx €800 worth of goods from the store before leaving in a car.

Gardai attached to Unit A, Ashbourne were alerted and responded immediately. The suspect vehicle was spotted and stopped and all the stolen property was recovered. Over 30 Yankee candles were also found in the boot of the car and these have been seized pending further inquiries.

Both males were arrested on suspicion of theft and conveyed to Ashbourne Garda Station where they were later charged to appear at Trim District Court.

Gardaí in Ashbourne investigating a spate of thefts from cars conducted a search of a house on Monday evening and recovered stolen property.

Late on Sunday evening a total of 14 cars were broken into at Killegland Underground Car park and various items of property taken.

Following Garda investigations, a search warrant was obtained and a house in the town was searched. A number of items were recovered, including tool boxes, that were stolen from the cars. 
Investigations are continuing. Gardaí are following a definite line of enquiry in these cases.
