Blaney packs a punch at Leicester Arena

Meath man Chris Blaney produced another big performance last night in his first scheduled six-rounder as he opened the action on a winning note in the Leicester Arena on a massive card for the BT Sport ‘City of Champions’ bill against Christian Hoskin Gomez.

The former Wolfe Tones player and now professional boxer also created a little bit of history in the process - Blaney was the first Irish boxer to feature on a card as part of the groundbreaking BoxNation-BT Sport deal,

Blaney was stepping up to six rounds and also facing a tough opponent in Spanish boxer Christian Hoskin Gomez on the Tommy Langford v Avtandil Khurtsidze undercard at the Leicester venue.

The Spaniard had previously held Dublin boxer Ciaran Mullen to a draw, but Meath man Blaney was up to the task last night and claimed a points victory over the six fiercely contested rounds.

Last night's success has Blaney on 6(3)-0 for professional results and next up will be another six-rounder against an opponent of similar or higher standing to
last night.

Last night's test was tougher than his bout in February when Blaney - known as ‘the Ginger Ninja’ - faced a last-minute replacement after numerous opponents dropped out.

On that occasion Blaney scored a comfortable knock-out win over Adrian Parlogea on the Red Corner ‘Unfinished Business bill in Dublin.

There was a special T Shirt produced locally for last night's bout and they are now proving very difficult to source as Blaney's growing number of supporters snapped them up making them real collectors' items.
