Brendan megraw to be laid to rest this week

The funeral of Brendan Megraw, the Belfast man whose remains were recovered from Oristown bog last month, will take place in Belfast this Friday.
A requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Oliver Plunkett Chapel, Glenveagh Drive, Belfast, at 11.30am that day.

The parish priest of Oristown, Fr John O’Brien, will be among those in attendance.

The remains of Mr Megraw will be removed from Dublin to his brother Kieran’s home in Belfast and from there to the church. Mr Megraw will be laid to rest with his parents in Glenavy Cemetery.

Meanwhile, work by the Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains to try to trace the remains of Joe Lynskey, one of 'The Disappeared' who was murdered and may also be buried in County Meath, are at an early stage, the commission has said.
It confirmed that it was now starting “preliminary work - at a very early stage - in relation to Joe Lynskey”. The commission did not say whether it intended surveying or excavating land at Coghalstown, Wilkinstown, which could be the possible site of burial.

It said that the recent recovery of Mr Megraw’s remains showed that the process in place to find 'The Disappeared' worked. Commissioners Sir Ken Bloomfield and Frank Murray were speaking at the WAVE Trauma Centre where families of 'The Disappeared' had gathered to make an appeal for more information on the six outstanding cases of those kidnapped, murdered and secretly buried by the IRA during the 1970s.
