Navan singer-songwriter Oisin Leech, has paid an eloquent and emotional tribute to his friend, the late Glen Hansard whom he said "never lost that sense of wonder."

The 56-year-old Frames frontman died following a single-vehicle motorcycle collision near the Strawberry Beds, Lucan, in the early hours of Wednesday.

Oisin of Lost Brothers fame and broadcaster said:

"Glen was always looking to light a spark - to find a spontaneous bit of alchemy in the moment on which to build and take something further.

"With other artists he was a scaffolding. He would reach across and pull you up and encourage you to keep going with an idea or a sound.

"He was more interested in art than careers. I toured with him many times across many nations and we would sit for hours discussing music while we travelled.

"My group The Lost Brothers toured with Glen and the band many times opening for them in theatres across the globe. We opened for The Frames too and Glen and Colm Mac Con Iomaire would sometimes wave us onstage to sing the encore with them. I did a Christmas busk one Christmas Eve too …Glen texting me inviting me to come to Dublin.

"One of my fondest memories is of a long drive with Glen on a tour bus across Europe together and discussing records and music as the towns and landscapes flashed by.

"Glen’s eyes lit up with that unique fire and passion when he discussed a Bob Dylan or Van Morrison album. It was a seven hour drive but it passed in a moment such was his love of music. We pulled up to the theatre - took out our guitars and stepped up onstage to see where the night took us.

"I’ll miss those many magical moments we shared together. When someone leaves us so suddenly like this it’s a huge shock - everything floods down at once and we see how brilliant someone like Glen was - how much he gave. He never lost that sense of wonder and that was his greatest gift to us.

"He’s a huge loss. My thoughts are with his wife and child and his pals."
