Royal Ascot winner for Joanna

Joanna Morgan was in the limelight at Royal Ascot today when she trained her first winner at the prestigious meeting when 20/1 outsider Roca Tumu won the Britiannia Stakes for jockey Billy Lee.

The winner of a Navan maiden last October over a mile, the three-year-old colt also won at Leopardstown last month.

Today at Royal Ascot Roca Tumu made all the running to win the first prize of £74,000 by a neck.

Runner-up Tarikhi and Queensbury Rules challenged strongly inside the final furlong but the Meath-trained horse battled well for victory.

Morgan was the first female jockey to ride at Royal Ascot back in 1975 and as a trainer she had her first runner there more than 20 years ago.

'A month ago I thought we could win this, but the closer you get to the race, the more you start your doubt yourself,' she commented.
