Johnny Murtagh and Sole Power

Royal Ascot double for Johnny Murtagh

Bohermeen man Johnny Murtagh showed that he still has the knack for riding big winners when Sole Power pipped the favourite Shea Shea to  win the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot yesterday for Dunshaughlin trainer Eddie Lynam.

Sole Power was back to his best for the Meath jockey and was held-up in the early stages before making a late dash for the line to give Murtagh his 40th Royal Ascot winner.

'It makes the Mondays and the Fridays a lot easier when you come to a meeting like this and ride great horses for good people,' commented Murtagh.

Murtagh completed a double when he won the final race on yesterday's card, the listed Windsor Castle Stakes, with Extortionist.

Murtagh has been leading jockey at Royal Ascot on five occasions.
