Players looking forward to championship

Meath players are looking forward to their opening round of the Leinster SFC when they tackle Wicklow in a quarter-final in Aughrim on Saturday week if the mood at tonight's media evening is used as a gauge.

The media night was held in the well-appointed Trim GAA clubrooms and organised by PRO Martin O'Halloran who made sure to have plenty of refreshments available for the ravenous presspack that descended on the venue shortly after 8pm.

The Meath players were put through a fairly thorough training session out on the pitches and then took time out to talk about the big game.

Meath will go into the game against Wicklow with supporters having high expectations of success in a clash that will be televised from Aughrim next week (Saturday 15th June).

At the moment there are no major injury concerns and apart from some players meeting the media, there was a football that had to be autographed for a good cause and Longwood's dual star Mickey Burke was getting the signatures - and no one dared forget.

The preparations will continue over the next week and it appears, at this stage, that Meath manager Mick O'Dowd will be able to select his starting 15 from a full strength panel.
