Manager exits after Christy Ring Cup replay defeat

Meath manager Cillian Farrell and selector Nick Fitzgerald saw their team exit the Christy Ring Cup in a 1-10 to 0-23 replay defeat at Ballycran today against Down for the manager's last game in charge.

Following the disappointing defeat Farrell announced that he would be stepping down as manager of the Meath team after three years in charge.

Meath finished today's game with 13 men following second-half red cards for Cormac Reilly and Sean Heavey, Down finished with 14. The red cards were for three separate incidents.

Meath trailed by three points (1-6 to 0-12) at the interval, but crumbled after the resumption and were well beaten at the end of 70 minutes.
