A happy huddle of Rathkenny players tonight at Simonstown

Rathkenny head towards quarter-finals

Rathkenny made it three out of three and sent their supporters home smiling from Simonstown (Thursday 30th May) when they got the better of Donaghmore/Ashbourne by 1-12 to 1-10 in a thriller.

Rathkenny played some very fluent football in the opening half as they produced a tremendous work-rate on the way to a 0-8 to 0-3 interval lead.

With the exception of a pointed Brian Lenehan '45' in the 13th minute, the remaining Rathkenny scores were from play.

Donal Curtis sent over two fantastic points, one when he was under pressure from two defenders. Brian Meade, Ivan Lenehan, Jack Gore and Owen Elliott also split the posts.

Tony Morgan early second-half goal revived Donaghmore / Ashbourne but Rathkenny substitute John Donegan found the net seven minutes from time to ease the pressure on Des Lane's men as they held on for victory.

Rathkenny lost Stephen McCabe with a first-half knee injury and Jack Gore sustained a shoulder injury.
