Great sadness was occasioned by the death of 15 year-old Patrick (Paddy) Smyth, Cloran Road, Athboy, at his residence on 28th February last. Son of Eugene and Una Smyth, Patrick loved sports of all kinds. His passion for playing hurling and football was evident from an early age. He played both codes for Clann na Gael, winning many accolades, including Under-10 Footballer of the Year for 2005 and Under-14 Hurler of the Year in 2009. The highlight for him was winning the Under-15 B hurling final when he played a starring role on the full-back line. Deceased was also a passionate fan of Liverpool FC. From a young age, he had always said he would join the Army and serve his time to become a mechanic, and always took note of various sports cars he would see in his travels. Patrick loved playing tricks and practical jokes and always had a smile for everyone, young and old, whilst walking around Athboy. He had also been a member of the No Name Club. Deceased is survived by his parents, Eugene and Una; sisters, Carol Smyth, Mill View, Athboy, and Stacey Smyth, Newman's Mill, Athboy; brother, Robert, Cloran Road; nephew, Jake Smyth, Newman's Mill; grandparents, Mary Reilly, St James's Terrace, Athboy, and Rose and Eugene Smyth, Dunderry; and extended family. The funeral took place from St James's Church, Athboy, to St James's Cemetery, where he rests with his grandfather, Paddy Reilly, who passed away in April 2009. A month's memory Mass will take place on Sunday 27th March at 11.30am in St James's Church. ____________________________________________________________ Tony Halligan, Kilmessan Mr Tony Halligan, Marshallstown, Kilmessan, who has died aged 65, was a native of Duncreevan, Kilcock. He died suddenly at his home on 20th February last. An electrician by trade, he loved to play guitar and tin whistle and enjoyed playing in a ballad group with Davy Murray, Christy Kelly and Paddy Tully many years ago. Deeply missed by family and friends, he is survived by his wife, Breda; son, Paul; daughter, Sandra; and brother, Darry Halligan, Duncreevan, Kilcock. The funeral took place from the Church of the Nativity, Kilmessan, to the adjoining cemetery. ____________________________________________________________ Dr John B Gilsenan, Athboy Dr John B Gilsenan, Gleniveagh, Athboy, who has died, was a general practitioner in Athboy for over 30 years, as well as an anaesthetist at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan. Aged 83, he passed away at St Elizabeth's Nursing Home, Athboy, on 11th February last. A native of Munterconnaught, Co Cavan, deceased came to Navan in 1957 to work as an anaesthetist in Our Lady's Hospital. There, he met his wife-to-be, Tina, and he remained there until his retirement in 1993. In 1963, the family moved to live in Athboy, where he worked as a GP until 1995. He was a well-respected and much-loved member of the community there. Although medicine was his chosen profession, Dr Gilsenan's passion was for farming and the countryside, and before his health failed him, he loved nothing better than cycling along the country lanes and spending time with his brothers on their farms. Following the death of his wife, Tina, he was cared for and minded by a group of kind friends whose generosity is gratefully appreciated by his family. Deceased is survived by his daughters, Fiona, Valerie, Joan, Andrea and Laura; sons-in-law, grandchildren, sisters, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and other relatives. The funeral took place from St James's Church, Athboy, to St James's Cemetery. A month's memory Mass will take place on Sunday 20th March at 11.30am in St James's Church. ____________________________________________________________ Patrick McCabe, Boyerstown & Dublin The regretted death occurred on 19th January last of Mr Patrick McCabe, Betaghstown, Boyerstown, Navan, and Charleville, Lower Churchtown Road, Dublin 14. Aged 89, the late Mr McCabe passed away at St Elizabeth's Nursing Home, Athboy. A native of Betaghstown, deceased was son of the late Denis and Margaret (Brady) McCabe, and lived in Dublin for most of his life. He was proprietor, with his brother Denis, of McCabe Shoes, Exchequer Street, Mary Street, and Talbot Street, for many years. Mr McCabe was predeceased by his wife, Teresa, in 2008; brothers, Robert (1960); Bernard (1962), Terence (1976), Denis (1986) and Philip (1989); and sisters, Catherine (1995), Mary (2000) and Margaret (2010). He is survived by his nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and other relatives. The funeral took place from Boyerstown Church to Bohermeen Cemetery on 22nd January. Fr Patrick Mackin, PE, officiated. ____________________________________________________________ Daniel O'Sullivan, Athboy Heartfelt sadness throughout the district was aroused following the recent death of Mr Daniel (Danny) O'Sullivan. Hill Of Ward, Athboy. He was aged 72 years. A native of Maglass, Castleisland, Co Kerry, Mr O'Sullivan passed away in the loving care of his wife, Pauline; daughters, Yvonne and Caroline; sons, John, Danny and Peter; daughters-in-law, Liz and Siobhan; sons-in-law, Peter and Brendan, and his grandchildren. Mr O'Sullivan was much-loved and appreciated by his family and his passing is a huge loss to them. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and a great friend to many. He has left everyone with wonderful memories that will be treasured forever. The funeral, which was celebrated by Fr Pat O'Connor, took place from St James's Church, Athboy, to St James's Cemetery.
