Royal County players set for Murrayfield test

Shane Horgan and Devin Toner are at opposite ends of the career spectrum, but they will be looking to help Leinster make a piece of rugby history in the Heineken Cup final at Murrayfield on Saturday. The experienced Horgan, who has won over 60 Irish senior caps, looks certain to start Saturday"s showdown. Toner (22) is at the foothills of his career and is also ready and willing to answer Leinster"s call as the province seeks to win the famous trophy for the first time. Toner will travel with the Leinster squad and while he is not expected to start, he could feature at some stage in the biggest game in Leinster"s history. At 6 foot 10, Toner is one of the tallest players in professional world rugby and his height could be utilised by Leinster coach Michael Cheika as they seek to overcome a formidable Leicester outfit. Toner from Moynalvey and Horgan from Bellewstown make up a Royal County combination in the Leinster set up Horgan was one of Leinster"s top performers in their 25-6 victory over Munster in the Heineken Cup semi-final at Croke Park a few weeks ago. He hasn"t had the best of seasons however, but indicated against the shell-shocked Munster men that he is rediscovering the type of form that made him a regular on the Irish team. Horgan will be looking to erase a previous and unpleasant experience of Murrayfield. Two years ago while warming up at the venue for a 'challenge" game against Scotland, prior to the 2007 World Cup, Horgan injured his ankle. The injury almost forced him to miss what turned out to be a disastrous World Cup campaign for the men in green under Eddie O"Sullivan. It took Horgan a considerable amount of time to recover from the injury. The past few weeks have been memorable for Toner who came on as a late replacement at Croke Park against Munster. Since then he has been called up to the Ireland A squad for games against Canada and Georgia in the Churchill Cup at Infinity Park, Glendale, Colorado next month. Toner has started most of Leinster"s Magners League games this season. He also played for the majority of Leinster"s Heineken Cup group clash against Wasps at the RDS. 'Leo Cullen got injured in the first 10 minutes in that game against the Wasps and I got a chance to come on. It was certainly the fastest pace I have ever experienced in a game,' said Toner who has been capped for Ireland at u-19 and u-21 levels. In his second year on a full-time contract with Leinster, Toner will travel with the squad to Scotland on Friday. If he does make an appearance he will not be short of support as members of his family are also making the trip to the home of Scottish rugby for the eagerly awaited decider.. 'We are treating the final like any other game. 'We"ll fly over the day before and fly home after the game,' he said.
