Athletes availing of the physio and other health checks that were available after tonight's race.

Navan AC Road Race a big success

Some 500 athletes and fun runners competed in the Sheridan Insurances-sponsored Simons Cumbers / paddy Hyland Memorial Road Race from Claremont Stadium, Navan this eveneing with Peter Brandon Somba (Dunboyne) taking the men's event and Adrienne Jordan (Crusaders) best of the women.

The road race was well supported and there was a physio and a number of other health checks available in the sports hall after the event courtesey of sponsors Sheridan Insurances as athletes enjoyed the refreshments provided by Navan AC.

The Simon Cumbers Memorial Cup (men) and Paddy Hyland Memorial Cup (women) were well contested, but both winners were well clear of their respecyive opponents (see top 10 listed below and times.

The late Mr Cumbers was a former Navan AC club member who was tragically killed in Saudi Arabia in 2004 while working as a reporter for the BBC.

The late Mr Hyland was a prominent member of Navan AC for many years and was well known in Irish athletics as a race starter.
