Horace Plunkett Hall in Dunsany.

Meeting to discuss future of historical Horace Plunkett Hall in Dunsany

A MEETING to examine the future of the Horace Plunkett Hall in Dunsany will take place on Tuesday next, 30th April, and all individuals and community groups that use the hall or live locally are welcome to attend.

Named after the founder of the co-operative movement in Ireland, the hall at Dunsany Crossroads has been at the centre of the community for generations, since the 18th Lord Dunsany built it as a recreation hall for employees of the estate. Later, it became the parish hall and is still used almost daily for various events, meeting, courses, dance, music, heritage and culture events.

The premises, attached to a vacant former RIC Barracks, is currently being looked after under the auspices of the parish by the local ICA guild.

The purpose of next week’s meeting is to renew the hall committee which has lost many of its members over the years since the original committee was formed, mainly due to the passings of key figures. A revitalisation of the group is needed with a view to future-proofing the premises.

With this in mind, there will be a meeting to look at how this can be done, and anyone with an interest in offering their skills or talents is welcome to join in looking after the facility and ensuring its use for future generations. The meeting is at 8pm on Tuesday 30th April, in the hall at Dunsany Crossroads.
