Calls to close Navan Facebook page after 'sick' dog fight post

LOUISE WALSH

An apparent 'joke' post advertising a dog fight in Navan tomorrow has attracted huge reactions of disgust on a popular Navan social media page.

The advert on the Navan Buy Sell Swap Facebook page was posted last Saturday and contains a picture of two fighting dogs with the caption 'Dog fight at Navan town centre on 07/03/2017.
Sickeningly it adds: 'all welcome.'
The post has been met with 'disgust' and 'anger' by nearly 300 members of the closed group who left comments.
Some people called for the post to be reported to both Facebook and gardai adding descriptions including, 'Horrible,' 'sick and appalling. Many noted the girl that created the post was not even from Ireland.

There have been numerous calls in recent weeks to close the page down after it became infiltrated by trolls putting up disturbing posts and pictures and making nasty comments on genuine posts to sell items.
It's been claimed that the site no longer has any admin to monitor the content.
The site, set up so members could buy, sell or swop items locally has almost 27,000 members.
