Death of former Meath Fianna Fail TD and senator, Michael Lynch

Michael Lynch, the former Fianna Fail TD for Meath, died last night at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan. He was aged 84.
Mr Lynch, of Oldcastle, was a Dail deputy for Meath from February to November 1982, and a senator from 1983 before being re-elected to the Dail from 1987 to 1989.
He was a member of Meath County Council from 1967, and served on the North Eastern Health Board and the Meath Vocational Education Committee. He was county council chairperson from 1992-'93, and stepped down from the council in 2009.
He sat on a number of Oireachtas committees, including Small Business and Irish Language.
A publican who ran the Ceili House in Oldcastle, he was a member of the Lynch Brothers Ceili Band, and prominent in Comhaltas Ceolteoiri Eireann.
His father, Philip, had served as a county councillor for Sinn Fein in the 1920s, and then, Fianna Fail.
Married to the late Maureen Cahill, he is survived by his sons, Marty and Lorcan, daughters, Noeleen and Carla, and extended family.
