Five Meath schools facing structural inspections

Five Meath schools are named among 40 built by Western Building Systems since 2008 now facing structural assessment inspections.

This follows revelations that two Dublin schools have closed with immediate effect after significant structural issues were discovered in the fabric of the building on Friday.

The local schools named are St Paul’s National School, Ratoath; Gaelscoil Tulach na Og, Dunboyne; Gaelscoil na Mí, Ashbourne
Asbourne Educate Together National School and Coláiste De Lacy, Ashbourne.

Deputy Thomas Byrne was briefed by the Minsiter for Education and was told the checks were being carried out because they were built by Western Building Systems.

He said it was hoped the schools will be checked within the next week.
