Free Jim FitzPatrick Irish Myths and Legends medal from Dublin Mint Office

The Dublin Mint Office has launched a new medal in partnership with Jim FitzPatrick to celebrate Irish Myths and Legends. The medal will be available free to the public.

The medal depicts Jim’s original artwork of Ériu, the mythological matron goddess of Ireland, from whose name the word Éire evolved. According to Irish mythology, the first people to arrive in Ireland were greeted by the goddess and her sisters, Banba and Fódla. Ériu asked that the land be named after her, as a gift from the invaders.

The other side of the medal displays a Celtic design. Both images are the works of the famed Irish artist Jim FitzPatrick, who is renowned for presenting Celtic mythology in vivid colour.

FitzPatrick says: “It is incredibly gratifying for me as an artist to see my work reproduced in a three-dimensional medal form. This will help people to connect with the legends which have been passed down from generation to generation and form a vital part of our culture and identity. From a young age, I collected comic books, stamps and coins with a major Celtic myths and legends fascination which is why this partnership with The Dublin Mint Office is a perfect fit and has been two years in the works.”

Irish Myths and Legends is a very popular theme across the country, and was voted for by The Dublin Mint Office customers during a customer survey.

Spokesperson of The Dublin Mint Office, Kathy Clarke, said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with the talented artist, Jim FitzPatrick. His beautiful designs have brought joy to Irish people for decades and we are very proud to see his work immortalised forever on this medal. We are continuously striving to provide our collectors with medals they will enjoy and feel a connection with, and we are proud to offer a medal that was so highly voted for by our customers.”

The Ériu medal is free (+€3.95 postage) with no further commitments.
