Reserve Cup final shoot-out success for Navan Cosmos

Navan Cosmos won the Meath & District League Reserve Cup for the first time when they took the trophy in sensational style following a sudden death penalty shoot-out against Duleek at Claremont Stadium, Navan on Saturday night. The teams shared four goals in an exciting decider and when extra-time produced further stalemate it was down to the dreaded lottery of penalties to resolve the matter. Former Parkvilla player Tomas Adamczyk headed Cosmos in front after 24 minutes, but Duleek got back on terms before the break when Brian McCabe headed a fine equaliser. Duleek maintained the momentum after the resumption and were well on top early in second-half, but Cosmos showed great battling qualities and forged ahead again when Muredach McAndrew finished well. Cosmos could have added to their tally through Rastislav Jokel before Duleek once again took over for the closing 15 minutes and tested "keeper Sean McDonagh on a number of occasions before Alan McKeown levelled with the help of a deflection from Cosmos defender Michael Rogers. Extra-time failed to break the deadlock and after 12 penalties it was still level as the stakes got higher in sudden death. Cosmos captain Mark Walsh netted the second sudden death penalty before Duleek"s Wayne Noone was narrowly wide with his effort. Cosmos have already won the Premier B Reserve League title and added the Reserve Cup to the trophy haul when MDL secretary Gerry Gorman made the presentation to joint-captains Walsh and Francis Murray.
