23 new Gardaí for Ashbourne, Drogheda and Navan welcomed

The allocation includes 13 new Gardaí for Ashbourne, six for Drogheda and four for Navan.

The announcement coincides with today's attestation of 207 new members of An Garda Síochána at the Garda College in Templemore, bringing Garda strength to its highest level in the history of the organisation.

Minister Thomas Byrne TD has warmly welcomed the allocation of 23 newly attested Gardaí to Ashbourne, Drogheda and Navan, describing the announcement as a significant boost to Garda resources and community safety across Meath and the wider region.

Welcoming the news, Minister Byrne said:

"I am absolutely delighted to welcome the allocation of 23 new Gardaí to our area, including a very significant 13 new members for Ashbourne, 6 for Drogheda and 4 for Navan.

"This is excellent news for communities across Meath and represents a substantial investment in frontline policing in our area. In particular, the allocation of 13 new Gardaí to Ashbourne is a very welcome development. Ashbourne and the surrounding communities have experienced enormous population growth in recent years, and it is vital that Garda numbers reflect that growth.

People rightly want to see more Gardaí on the streets, greater Garda visibility, and a strong policing presence in their local communities. These additional Gardaí will help deliver that.

"I have consistently advocated for increased Garda resources across Meath East, and I am very pleased that our area is benefiting so significantly from today's allocation."

Minister Byrne also welcomed the confirmation by Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan that Garda strength has now reached a record high, with further recruitment supported by additional funding under Budget 2027.

"This Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen An Garda Síochána and increase the number of Gardaí serving communities throughout the country.

"I want to congratulate all 207 new Gardaí being attested today and particularly welcome the 23 who will be serving in Ashbourne, Drogheda and Navan. I wish them every success in their careers and look forward to the positive contribution they will make to keeping our communities safe.

I will continue to work to ensure that Garda resources keep pace with the needs of our growing communities across Meath East," Minister Byrne concluded.
