Fundraiser in memory of young Navan man raises over €4,500

More than 350 people attended the recent fundraising five-a-side football tournament in Navan which commemorated the late Jack Gibney.

Jack's family and friends raised over €4,500 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) through the tournament which took place at MDL in Navan on 25th July.

Jack Gibney was just 20 years old when his sudden death devastated his family and local community. The much-loved son, brother, friend and teammate was described as “fun loving, always laughing and joking, but wise beyond his years. Jack (above), had passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday 31st May.

The team who won the tournament was Ben Gibney's team ‘The Wolfpack’, Ben is Jack's brother.

“Their mam, Tanya, was convinced the Jack was on the pitch with Ben pressuring them to get the win.” said Jack's friend, Mark Kettle who organised the event along with Jack's family.

“It was a great day all round. I’m already being pushed to organise it again next year.

“All proceeds from the event will go directly to CRY, who were happy to partner with us on it. CRY’s mission is to prevent Sudden Cardiac Death in young persons in Ireland and they support families affected.”
