Emergency river search in Navan stood down
A report of a man in the River Blackwater in Navan sparked a major emergency services response last night but was stood down this morning with the incident declared a false alarm.
Meath River Rescue, Navan Gardai, the Garda Air Support Unit and Meath Civil Defence were all on hand after Gardai received reports of a man in the water under the bridge close to Navan Fire Station at approximately 7.30 yesterday evening.
The Garda helicopter hovered overhead while crews from Meath River Rescue combed the area and also used new thermal imaging equipment during the search.
The search resumed this morning but its now understood the incident is being treated as a false alarm and the operation stood down.
Meath River Rescue had also been involved in a search for a mising person in Enniskillen over the weekebnd.
