Status Yellow wind warning issued for Meath

Motorists across Meath are being urged to take care as Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow wind warning for the county as part of a series of weather alerts nationwide.

The yellow wind warning for Meath, along with Dublin, Louth, Wexford and Wicklow, will come into effect at 11pm tomorrow night and remain in place until 1pm on Wednesday.

The national forecaster has warned that strong and gusty winds, combined with high tides, could result in wave overtopping in coastal areas, fallen trees, loose debris and difficult travelling conditions.

Met Éireann has also issued a Status Yellow rain warning for several counties including Dublin and Wicklow, running from 11pm tomorrow night until 11pm on Wednesday. While Meath is not included in the rain alert, heavy downpours elsewhere and already saturated ground have raised concerns about localised flooding.

The forecaster said that rain falling on saturated soils, together with high river levels, may lead to flooding, poor visibility and hazardous driving conditions.

Further north-west, a Status Yellow rain and snow warning will come into effect for Donegal, Leitrim and Sligo at 2am on Wednesday, remaining in place until 2pm. Heavy rain in those areas may turn to sleet and snow, creating further travel disruption.

Meanwhile, the UK Met Office has issued a yellow ice warning for Northern Ireland from 8pm this evening until 10am tomorrow, warning that wintry showers followed by clearing skies could lead to icy stretches on untreated surfaces.

The fresh warnings follow several weeks of unsettled weather, with persistent rainfall leading to flooding in a number of areas across the country, including parts of Meath.

Road users are being advised to slow down, allow extra time for journeys and remain alert to changing weather conditions.
