The Intermediate final between Dunderry and Drumree in Trim at 2pm on Saturday is the first of the weekend and it promises to be a thriller.

Sparks were flying in Drumree when these teams met in the second round, on which occasion Dunderry won by three.

This was, by some distance, the tightest game that Dunderry have played in this year’s championship.

They have been the top team at this grade in 2026 and they put in a dominant semi-final performance against Donaghmore/Ashbourne in Dunganny last Sunday.

The return of Aoife Minogue from Australia has been an enormous boost for them, but young players like Sadhbh Barron and the 2026 county minor captain Maria McLoughlin are also crucial to this Dunderry side.

A Senior A team in 2024, they now have every chance of turning the tide on consecutive years of relegation.

Drumree have a score of their own to settle for they will be desperate to make amends for last year’s final defeat to St Peter’s Dunboyne.

After claiming the Div 2 league title earlier this year - beating Navan O’Mahonys (a Senior B side) in the final - they are formidable opponents.

They have a strong defence which includes Clíodhna O’Riordain (2026 Meath panel) and also numerous scoring threats. Áine McTighe, Chloe Mahon, Ellie Dervin and Louise Griffin are just a few that could cause problems for Dunderry’s rearguard.

Drumree may have lost out to Dunderry in the group, but they showed in their semi-final that they are more than capable of reversing a result.

They overcame Na Fianna’s second team 4-10 to 2-9 last weekend, having lost to them by four a week prior.

This Intermediate final is by no means a curtain-raiser to the Senior A final: it is a contest that could potentially steal the show.
