Major retailers begin recruitment drive for Christmas staff

Meath retailers are beginning their recruitment process for additional staff ahead of a busy Christmas period. This includes both Tesco and M&S, who have announced they are looking to recruit a significant volume of people across the country.

Tesco have recently announced their recruitment drive, with 68 temporary roles available across Meath, and a total of 1,725 across the country. Applications are now open, with successful applicants joining Tesco across three start dates – November 2, November 9 and November 16, until the end of December.

There are a number of different branches spread across the country, which includes locations in Navan (Navan Shopping Centre and Clonmagadden), Ashbourne, Enfield, Ratoath, Bettystown, and Dunshaughlin.

Along with competitive terms and conditions, those joining Tesco will have access to the retailer’s broader colleague reward and benefits package from day one, including virtual GP service, complimentary food, and wellbeing first support.

Maurice Kelly, People Director at Tesco Ireland, said, “Christmas is one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year in our stores, and we’re delighted to be creating 1,725 festive roles across the country this year, an increase of over 600 on last Christmas.

"Whether people are looking for additional hours over Christmas, returning to work or interested in trying retail for the first time, we’d encourage people to apply and join us for the festive season. These roles will help us support customers during the busy festive period while creating valuable employment opportunities in communities across Ireland.”

Marks & Spencer has also announced it will recruit more than 270 new colleagues to support its store teams across Ireland this festive season. This will likely include their Navan branch, although it is unclear how many individuals they will be seeking to bring in.

Seasonal roles will begin on 25 October, and successful applicants will receive full training and support. These positions will start at €14.65 per hour, and those interested in applying can find details at the M&S Christmas careers page.
