Trial traffic-calming measures considered for Old Athlumney

New traffic calming measures could be on the way at Old Athlumney Manor in Navan.

Meath County Council it set to examine the feasibility of introducing traffic management measures on a trial basis there, including a possible two way system, a cul de sac or partial cul de sac arrangement.

At a recent meeting of Navan Municipal Council, The Mayor of Navan, Cllr Francis Deane called on Meath County Council to erect bollards at Old Athlumney Manor, on the Old Road for a six-month trial period, in an effort to ease the traffic and facilitate pedestrian usage.

"This area has experienced huge residential growth in recent years resulting in a significant increase in traffic in addition to a rise in pedestrian footfall,” he said.

He was told Meath County Council would undertake an assessment of the traffic and pedestrian movements in the vicinity, having regard to the significant residential development that has taken place in the area in recent years and the resulting increase in vehicular and pedestrian activity.

As part of this assessment, the Council will examine the feasibility of introducing traffic management measures on a trial basis.

"The suitability and potential impacts of each option will be evaluated in terms of traffic circulation, road safety, accessibility for residents, emergency service access, and pedestrian amenity.

Given the potential implications for local residents and road users, a public consultation process may also be undertaken to gather stakeholder feedback on the preferred traffic management solution before any trial measures are implemented, the meeting was told.

"Following completion of the assessment and consultation process, if deemed appropriate, the Council will consider the introduction of a suitable traffic management trial, including the possible installation of bollards for a defined trial period, and will monitor its effectiveness in addressing traffic and pedestrian safety concerns in the area."
