'Heartbreaking news'... Navan in shock at death of young man in e-scooter collision
The Mayor and Cathaoirleach of Navan Municipal District has described as 'heartbreaking' the news that a young man lost his life overnight when the e-scooter he was riding collided with a car.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal road traffic collision on the Kentstown Road, Navan in the early hours of this morning Sunday, 26th July.
The collision involved a car and an e-scooter and occurred at approximately 1:45am.
The driver of the e-scooter, an unidentified male was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has been removed to the Mortuary in Our Lady's Hospital, Navan.
The driver of the car, a male in his 60's and a male passenger, aged in his 20s were both uninjured.
Cllr Padraig Fitzsimons said: "This is just heartbreaking news and I know the people of Navan will be shocked by it. It's another fatality involving an e-scooter which have been in the news so much lately. My heart goes out to the family and to all involved in this terrible incident."
Navan Cllr Alan Lawes said his heart went out to the families of the victim and the driver of car. "It's another young life lost on our roads and I extend my sympathies to the deceased man's family and my thoughts are also with the occupants of the car.
Cllr Lawes said that while the circumstances of the collision had still to emerge, the new laws on e-scooters "could not come in quick enough."
Fellow Navan Cllr Emer Toibin said: "As a mother I was deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death of an adult man following an e-scooter accident in the early hours of this morning. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss. God help this grieving family."
The road was currently closed for examination by Forensic Collision Investigators with local diversions put in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.
Any road users who were travelling in this area between 1am and 1.45am this morning and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Separately, Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the L4101 at Lanespark, Ballynonty, Thurles, Co. Tipperary in the early hours of this morning Sunday 26th July, 2026.
The collision involved a car and occurred at approximately 3:45am.
The driver of the car, a male adult teenager was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body was been removed to Waterford University Hospital where a post mortem will take place in due course.
