McDonalds submit plans for drive-thru restaurant

A planning application for a McDonalds drive-thru restaurant at the Citynorth Business Campus at Gormanston has been lodged with Meath County Council.

McDonald's Restaurants of Ireland Ltd is seeking permission for the construction of a single storey drive-thru restaurant , as well as car parking, bicycle parking, signage, landscaping including outdoor furniture/seating area.

Vehicular access is proposed via the existing petrol station internal road to include a new southern footpath.

With an approximate area of 0.4365ha, the site is located on lands at Citynorth Business Park, to the immediate east of the Circle K M1 Gormanston. To the north, a service road connects the City North Hotel to the M1 motorway.

A previous planning application by Alcove Holdings Ltd for a drive-thru restaurant was refused permission by Meath County Council in 2019 for reasons including insufficient information on the wastewater treatment and the lack of a traffic and transport assessment.

The planning statement with the new application on behalf of McDonalds Restaurants of Ireland states that the applicant is seeking to apply for a development of a single-storey drive-thru restaurant and to overcome the previous reasons for refusal on the site.

It outlines that a comprehensive Traffic and Transport Statement for the proposal has been prepared, and that supporting civil engineering details, including a Confirmation of Feasibility from Uisce Éireann has been provided.

"As such, it is submitted that the subject application has appropriately addressed the previous reasons for refusal raised. Should permission be granted for the proposed development, the applicant intends to implement this decision and commence construction soon thereafter to begin operations at the subject site," the planning statement says.
