Horan points Kilmessan to minor title

Despite throw-in being delayed to facilitate extra-time in the preceding thrilling Div 2 final Kilmessan produced a perfectly timed performance to clinch the MHL Div 1 crown with victory over Trim at Kildalkey on Wednesday evening.

There was nothing between the sides in the opening half with Conor Horan's free-taking ensuring Kilmessan were level at the break, 0-10 to 1-7.

Horan was unerring throughout and contributed 17 points to his side's victory with five of his scores coming from play, while Stephen Cahill's two goals were also crucial.

After the resumption Kilmessan upped the tempo with an inspirational point from the hardworking Khalid Daramola giving them a perfect boost before a super goal from Cahill put them in the driving seat.

Trim never gave up and ensured a tense finale, but Cahill's brace of goals proved decisive as he played a captain's role in his side's magnificent victory.
