Freeman appointed as Meath ladies manager

Kildare native, Freeman was head-coach for the Meath ladies under previous manager Shane McCormack

Meath LGFA have announced the appointment of Wayne Freeman as Manager of the Meath Ladies Senior team.

The Meath LGFA County Board ratified Freeman’s appointment at a meeting on Monday which marked the beginning of a three-year term. He steps into the role following the departure of Shane McCormack, who guided Meath to the 2025 All-Ireland Final.

Freeman brings a strong track record of inter-county experience and coaching leadership. He has previously managed Clare LGFA and Louth LGFA, and he contributed to management teams in Kildare and Laois.

Freeman’s own playing career was cut short by a health setback at the age of 21. Since then, Freeman has transitioned into coaching and has built a reputation for driving teams to perform at the highest level.

As Freeman was head-coach under McCormack’s management setup, he is already familiar with Meath’s structures and has established strong relationships within the squad.

In accepting the role, Freeman expressed his ambition to propel Meath to further success.

“I am very happy to accept the opportunity to manage this brilliant group of players. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the group as the head coach throughout 2025, and I am excited about building on the foundations we've built as a group, continuing to develop and improve in 2026."
