Arrest after raid targeting theft of high end cars

Search carried out in Monaghan on Wednesday, June, 28.

Gardaí have raided a site in Monaghan as part of ongoing investigations targeting organised criminal groups involved in the theft and resale of high end motor vehicles.

The operation was conducted by the Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit (SMVIU), attached to the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the search was carried out on Wednesday, June, 28.

Operation Shannon is an ongoing investigation led by the SMVIU targeting organised criminal groups engaged in the theft and resale of high end vehicles, and is supported by counterfeit vehicle registration documentation.

In the course of the operation in Monaghan a stolen van bearing false registration plates was recovered.

Furthermore one man aged in his 30s was arrested.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in County Monaghan.

“Investigations are ongoing,” said a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana.
