New principal for Coláiste na Mí

A new principal has been appointed at Coláiste na Mí, Navan, by Louth and Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB).

Louise Kearns joins the other members of the leadership and management team of the school, deputy principals, Michael McCarthy and Gemma O’Hart.

The new principal holds a bachelor of science degree and a higher diploma in education from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

Having worked as principal in Glenart College, Arklow, Co Wicklow since 2016, Ms Kearns brings a wealth of leadership and management knowledge to the role of Principal at Coláiste na Mí, according to the board.

She has significant experience in the areas of school leadership, curriculum development and review, teacher continuous professional development, school governance, school self-evaluation and policy development and review.

Ms Kearns says she recognises the link between high quality teaching, learning and assessment methods and student attendance, retention and achievement and she is committed to supporting and promoting attendance and retention, student voice and wellbeing initiatives at the school.

She will also work closely with all members of the school community to monitor and track student attainment during their time at Coláiste na Mí and to map out and action pathways for progression to third level, further education, apprenticeships or employment for students.

Accordingto the LMEBT, she understands the importance of students engaging in co-curricular and extra- curricular activities and looks forward to progressing the range of opportunities for students in the school.
