Man killed in N3 hit and run is named locally

The man killed in a hit and run on the N3 in Billis has been named locally.

Frank Nulty, who was in his 50s, was discovered by the side of the road by a cyclist at around 12 noon yesterday.

Emergency services attended the scene but he was pronounced dead. His body has been removed to the mortuary at Cavan General Hospital. The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

Gardaí are treating the incident as a hit and run. They say it is believed to have occured at some point between 10pm on Thursday night and 12 noon on Friday.

Gardaí said following an examination of the area, it was identified that Mr Nulty was struck by a vehicle which failed to remain at the scene. Forensic Collision Investigators have completed a full technical examination of the scene. The road has now reopened.

Mr Nulty, who was from the Drumfomina area of New Inns, had been due to join strike action art Kyte Powertech in Cavan town yesterday.

Workers halted their picket yesterday afternoon following confirmation of the incident.

No funeral arrangements have as of yet been announced.

Gardaí in Bailieborough are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward, and to any person who is aware of a vehicle with unexplained damage in the wider Cavan area.

They are also appealing to any road users who were on the N3 in Ballyjamesduff between 10pm Thursday evening, (August 18) and 12pm (midday) on Friday (August 19) and who observed any unusual activity in the area. Any drivers who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area between these hours is asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
