Flooding issues near Sonairte to be resolved

An end to flooding problems on the Laytown-Julianstown Road near the Sonairte Ecological Centre is in sight, according to Cllr Elaine McGinty.

Work as begun to allevite flooding in the area, which has been a maor issue for may years.

“I am delighted that remedial work has finally commenced and should be completed shortly,” Cllr McGinty said.

”Flooding at the entrance to Sonairte has been a long term issue and the situation has deteriorated significantly over the last number of years. Following a number of representations I made to Meath County Council on the need for urgent draining solutions to the flooding, a contractor was appointed and work has now commenced.“

She continued: “Sonairte, the National Ecology Centre is an interactive visitor centre which promotes environmental awareness and sustainable living. It is now cited as a major attraction with Boyne Valley Tourism for east Meath and at the forefront of climate action and awareness in the area.

“We are so fortunate to have this amazing facility on our doorstep in east Meath and I am delighted to see that this vital remedial work is finally taking place, “ she said.

Meanwhile, work is also due to start on road resurfacing in Ard Rí Estate in Drogheda in mid July. Following a successful tender process Roadstone Ltd have been appointed as contractors.

“These road works are essential and long time coming for Ard Ri residents. I wish to thank Meath County Council and staff for their commitment to this project and look forward to seeing the end result," Cllr McGinty concluded.
