The Ardcath cyclists take a well-earned rest.

Ardcath cyclists make it from Mizen to Malin

A group of intrepid cyclists from the Well-Oiled Wheelers based in Ardcath completed the amazing challenge of cycling from Mizen Head in Cork to Malin Head in Donegal on Saturday 25th June in less than 24 hours.

Rain and wet conditions did not help the progress of the cyclists, but the team and the crew battled on regardless.

The cycle team consisted of PJ Cowley, Brendan McKenna, Willie Tuite, Gerry Doyle, Patrick Arnold, Ronan Sheridan, Tommy Fields and Ronny McNally all from the surrounding Ardcath area.

With an average speed of 29 km per hour across the 580 km the team completed the journey in 23 hours 15 mins allowing for rest breaks.

"All from the club would like to congratulate the team and their support staff and we hope to see more cyclists and challenges for our club in the future," commented Paul Kennedy, chairperson of the Well-Oiled Wheelers.
