Drama all the way on second day of Primary Schools' finals

Drama, end-to-end action, great scores, tears of joy and disappointment. They all made up what was the second day of the Meath Primary Schools' finals played at Pairc Tailteann today.

Teams from St Brigid's, Cortown, Kilcloon NS, Baconstown NS, Gaelscoil Eanna, St Declan's, Ashbourne and and Castletown NS all triumphed in today's finals to bring glory to their respective schools.

Some of the games were close run affairs that produced some outstanding football such as the Kilcloon NS v St Colmcille's NS, Kells that went to the wire stirring up a frenzy of excitement among the spectators before it was decided.

Such occasions are big days indeed for the players, their families and the teachers. For those who taste victory the day will be remembered for a long time to come. Special days.

There were some outstanding individual displays produced too over the course of the morning and afternoon such as the last final of the weekend when Castletown NS defeated St Brigid's NS, Cortown, 4-8 to 4-7 in the Girls Div 5 showdown, the thin margin of victory indicating exactly just how close it was.

Shauna Kate Smyth scored 3-5 for the winners while Leah Codd registered 3-6 for Cortown. Two superb individual displays that lit up the afternoon.

Unfortunately somebody had to end up on the losing side. Such is the heartbreak of sport but for the winners there was a great day one they will recall for years to come.
