Celebrating International Women's Day at Boliden Tara Mines

Boliden Tara Mines hosted a special breakfast on site to mark International Women’s Day. The breakfast was hosted by Gunnar Nystrom, general manager at Tara with Carolan Lennon, the first female CEO of eir invited as keynote speaker for the event. Coordinator for the day was Nikki Taggart, principal consultant with Coolhouse Consulting.

The theme for this years International Women’s Day (IWD) is #Breakthebias and Tara added their own theme of “inclusion” to the day. In what is traditionally seen as a male industry, there was much discussion around how Boliden can help to build a more inclusive workplace where women thrive. There are currently 100 women employed at Tara Mines.

There was also focus on how to raise awareness against bias and a celebration of women’s achievements and how we can collectively take action for equality.

To mark the occasion a special contribution was made on behalf of all the employees in Tara to the Meath Women’s Refuge.

Sinead Smyth of Meath Women’s Refuge accepted the cheque and spoke of the work done by the organisation in Meath and surrounding counties and there plans for a new facility in the area.
