Death of Linda Sherlock, former Meath Chronicle and RTÉ journalist

Kingscourt native developed flagship 'The Week in Politics' programme

The death has taken place in Dublin of the former Meath Chronicle reporter, Linda Sherlock, who was a native of Kingscourt and went on to oversee RTÉ’s political coverage for decades.

Aged 66, she died on peacefully at her Dalkey home on Thursday morning, having been ill since 2019.

Daughter of the late Meath and Cavan footballer, Victor Sherlock, and his wife, Vera, Linda had retired in recent years from RTÉ, where she worked with every political reporter from the days of Donal Kelly and Sean Duignan.

A versatile reporter with the Meath Chronicle from 1979 to 1981, she became head of RTE’s Oireachtas Unit and was responsible for political affairs in RTÉ, overseeing election counts coverage.

She was responsible for establishment of ‘The Week in Politics’ programme and worked with Sean O’Rourke for a decade on the production. She retired 11 years ago.

Mother of Eoin and Emilie, she will be sadly missed by her children and their partners, her brother Brian, extended family and wide circle of friends.
