Miles apart but united still

FUNDRAISER Mum and daughter raise money for CF Ireland

Mother and daughter fundraisers Evelyn Daly and Mary Daly Hayes are making sure to keep connected by fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland.

Due to Covid-19 Cystic Fibrosis Ireland has had to cancel all of their usual fundraising activities and have gone virtual. Mother and daughter duo decided they would become virtual fundraisers as a way to stay connected and raise much needed funds by taking part in the February 5km Challenge

“My Mam Evelyn introduced me to fundraising for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland many years ago and it’s a cause very close to our hearts. Although we live 40 miles apart we walk together virtually every day” said Mary, who lives in Virginia, County Cavan.

Her mum Evelyn lives in Ashbourne, County Meath.

“When Lockdown started last March we didn’t know when we were going to see each other in person again so we decided to get in shape for the Cystic Fibrosis International Walk. We managed to chat on the phone while walking so we felt like we were walking together and keeping each other company.

“Over the course of the Lockdowns we’ve continued to walk virtually together and chat. It’s been great exercise for the body and mind. Mam (who is 77 years young) even runs part of the way! We’ve discovered parts of where we live that we hadn’t ventured to before and have more time now to chat without having to rush off somewhere,” continued Mary.

They were delighted to get involved in the February 5km Challenge for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland to help raise much needed funds.

“Unfortunately I fractured my heel so instead of walking I’m doing my daily 5km on an exercise bike. Mam has to contend with all different types of weather walking but we still manage our chats.

“We proudly wear our Cystic Fibrosis T-shirt’s and will continue to raise much needed funds for Cystic Fibrosis Ireland for as long as our good health continues. We have made wonderful friends for life through Cystic Fibrosis and look forward to meeting them all again when it’s safe to do so,“ concluded Mary.
