Boardsmill appoint new managers for all teams

GAA

There has been plenty of activity in Boardsmill GAA club with appointments for the football, hurling, ladies football and camogie teams finalised in the last few days.

The club has appointed Chris Byrne as the manager of the hurling team with an IHC decider from 2020 still on the cards.

In 2020 Boardsmill made it to the IHC final where they were due to play Wolfe Tones however, that game was postponed because of the pandemic and, if circumstances allow, it will be one of Byrne's first assignments as new manager.

Byrne has been involved with coaching young players in development squads in Kildare. He has also trained the Coill Dubh senior hurling team and guided the club their first league title in 15 years.

Boardsmill officials have also appointed joint-managers Pat Winters and Eddie Holton to take charge of the football team that will be looking to make an impact in the JFC this year. Holton has been the first team coach and selector for Johnstownbridge for the past three years. He has also managed the club's second team and won an u-21 title as manager of Balyna.

Winters has managed the Kildare u-16 and u-14 footballers, won a junior title with Robertstown and coached the Raheen intermediate footballers to a county title.

WOMEN'S TEAMS

The club has also announced the appointment of PJ Donoghue as the new manager of their camogie team.

From Ballyboden in Dublin, Donoghue will be able to draw on a deep reservoir of experience.

He has managed the Dublin senior camogie team and has enjoyed considerable success with Ballyboden St Enda's guiding them to four senior championships and a Leinster A title. He also coached Colaiste Eanna to three Senior A Dublin Colleges titles and a Leinster A crown as well as several league triumphs.

Donoghue will be joined as part of the Boardsmill management team by selectors Mary Durkan and John Nolan.

Summershill native Stephen Husband has been appointed to take charge of the Boardsmill ladies football team for the 2021 season.

A player with the Summerhill senior foootball team for many years Husband can also call on a wealth of experience.

He won two Meath SFC medals and one league title with Summerhill as well as helping the club to twice win the Feis Cup. He was also a member of the TG4 Underdogs team.
