Woman arrested in Kyran Durnin murder investigation
Gardaí investigating the disappearance and murder of six-year-old Kyran Durnin have arrested a woman in connection with the ongoing investigation.
The woman, aged in her 50s, was arrested this morning, Monday, and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.
As part of the investigation, Gardaí are also carrying out a search under warrant at a domestic residence in Drogheda, Co Louth.
Gardaí confirmed this morning that investigations remain ongoing.
The case of Kyran Durnin shocked communities across the north east and the wider country after concerns were raised about the little boy’s whereabouts in late 2024.
Kyran, who was from Drogheda, was reported missing in August 2024. However, Gardaí later revealed they believed the child had died a number of years earlier.
A murder investigation was subsequently launched following what Gardaí described as “grave concerns” for Kyran’s welfare and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
The investigation has involved extensive searches and inquiries across several locations in Louth and elsewhere, with Gardaí appealing on multiple occasions for information from the public.
Last October, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris described the case as “deeply disturbing”, while Taoiseach Simon Harris said the nation had been “horrified and heartbroken” by the details emerging from the investigation.
Today’s arrest marks a significant development in the inquiry, which has remained one of the most high-profile Garda investigations in recent years.
Gardaí said no further information is available at this time.
