Evan Ferguson

Meath teenager heading for Brighton

Talented Meath teenager Evan Ferguson has officially signed for English Premier League side Brighton according to a social media post from Dublin club Bohemian FC this evening - there was an agreement in place since last year for a move to Brighton after his 16th birthday.

The 16-year-old most recently won the SSE Airtricity under-17 League with Bohs/SKB (St Kevin's Boys') scoring in the final against Shamrock Rovers last month.

THE OFFICIAL POST

Bohemians and St Kevin's can confirm that striker Evan Ferguson has transferred to English Premier League side Brighton.

Ferguson is from Bettystown and is the son of Meath FAI Regional Development Officer Barry Ferguson.

Evan (then 14) featured for Bohemian FC off the bench at Dalymount Park in July 2019 in a friendly against Chelsea in what was manager Frank Lampard’s first game in charge.

Evan was introduced just after the hour mark for that outing and is steeped in football as his dad Barry played successfully with Bohs, Sporting Fingal, Shamrock Rovers and Longford Town.

Evan became the youngest player to represent the Bohemian FC first team when he made his League of Ireland debut away to Derry City in September 2019.

The teenager was one of the nominees for the 2019 'Three' FAI International Awards that, due to the Covid-19, was originally postponed from early 2020 and then did not take place due to social distancing protocols remaining in place.

Evan was nominated for the 2019 awards in the u-15 category, but last year he featured for the Republic of Ireland u-17s and netted a second-half equaliser as they drew a friendly with Switzerland (1-1) in Spain.

He was a member of the Republic of Ireland panel for the Elite Round of the UEFA European Under-17 Championships in Scotland that was originally scheduled for the end of March last year.
